STEP 1 : ARTISTIC DRAWINGS
Most custom designs start with an idea that must be put into perspective with a drawing by the jeweler. This drawing gives a better idea of what the finished item will look like.
Sometimes more than one drawing is done to give you a choice of favorite design, the jeweler will normally invest several hours in drawings and measurements.
STEP 2 : WAX CARVING
Hand carving a one of a kind wax takes a highly skilled jeweler with artistic ability. This is one of the most important tasks in designing a custom ring. Detailing a wax carving is a lengthy job requiring hours of concentration.

STEP 3 : FINISHED WAX CARVING
The finished wax is now placed on a sprue base and is ready for the next step.
STEP 4 : INVESTMENTS PROCESS
The flask is then filled with a hardening substance called investment. The flask sits on a vibration machine that removes all air bubbles from the investment.
STEP 5 : INVESTMENTS PROCESS
Once the flask is filled with investment it will need approximately 1 hour for hardening to a concrete texture. The investment has now formed a mold like pattern around the wax ring.
STEP 6 : BURN OUT PROCESS
The harden investment can now withstand high temperatures in a special lined oven.
The flask will be heated up to 1300 degrees. During this process the wax ring inside the flask will melt away leaving the molded design in the harden investment.
This process takes 7 hours.
STEP 7 : SMELTING THE METAL
Using a heavy duty torch the metal is heated to almost 2000 degrees. In this case we are using 14KT yellow gold.
STEP 8 : FINAL CASTING STAGE
With the gold heated at almost 2000 degrees and the steel flask red hot the liquefied gold can now be forced into the flask using the centrifugal force casting arm. Excellent timing must be used during the process so neither the gold nor the flask changes in temperature.
STEP 9 : ROUGH CASTING
After the flask has cooled down and the investment is removed the new 14KT gold ring is revealed. From here a skilled jeweler will now use several time consuming steps to achieve a bright polish finish on the new ring.
STEP 10 : HIGH POLISHED RING
After several hours of detailed polishing by the jeweler the ring's true luster is now visible.
STEP 11 : DIAMOND SETTING STAGE
To achieve this breathtaking look a jeweler must be highly skilled with many years experience in diamond setting. Each diamond must be hand set to perfection.
Ellis Jewelers is proud to have several in house jewelers with this skill.
